Birds

During recent years I have been spending my summers on the ocean shore and I often spend hours watching the waves and the birds. This led me to look up information about particular birds and any pictures of them that I could find online. I started drawing birds on clay tiles and doing life size reliefs in wax. I made moulds of the wax originals and cast the first relief sculptures into clay. I also started to do some very small jewelry scale reliefs. I cast versions of these in clay, Aqua Resin and bronze and each one was individually worked and colored. These were the smallest sculptures I had ever made and I was surprised by the level of detail and expression I was able to achieve at this scale. In addition to sculpting individual birds I started developing compositions that included aspects of their activities or environment.
